At IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich, Volkswagen Global unveiled three highly anticipated new models — the ID. Polo, ID. Polo GTI and the ID. CROSS Concept — highlighting the next generation of electric vehicles designed for urban and spirited driving. The event also reinforced Volkswagen’s new naming approach for its electric ID. family, pairing the ID. badge with familiar model names.2

ID. Polo & ID. Polo GTI: the evolution of iconic nameplates

Volkswagen has confirmed the ID. Polo as the official production name, marking the next step in the brand’s evolution of its all-electric compact car strategy. The model, previously known under the name ID. 2all, signals the beginning of a new naming convention for the ID. family — one that pairs the “ID.” electric designation with Volkswagen’s most iconic model names. By doing so, Volkswagen is bridging its pioneering electric portfolio with the legacy and recognition of its established line-up.

The ID. Polo GTI made its world premiere marking a new chapter in Volkswagen’s performance lineage — the first fully electric interpretation of the iconic GTI badge. Continuing a tradition that began nearly five decades ago, the ID. Polo GTI translates the hallmark GTI traits of agility, precision, and everyday usability into the electric era. Powered by a front-mounted electric motor delivering approximately 166 kW, the model features a sport-tuned chassis, electronic differential lock, and a new generation of dynamic control systems designed to ensure responsive handling and confident cornering.

ID. CROSS Concept: compact SUV, bold design

The ID. CROSS Concept represents Volkswagen’s vision for a compact electric SUV that blends city agility with everyday versatility. Built on the MEB+ architecture, it delivers 155 kW of power and an estimated WLTP range of up to 420 km.3 Its design reflects Volkswagen’s “Pure Positive” philosophy, with expressive proportions, sharp lines, and distinctive lighting signatures. The ID. CROSS Concept points to a future where compact EVs are practical, stylish, and accessible for a wide range of drivers.

In addition to these headline models, Volkswagen presented a range of innovations across the ID family, including concept previews like the ID. EVERY1 and updates on charging, software, and digital connectivity. The IAA exhibition emphasised interactive experiences and technology demonstrations, providing insight into Volkswagen’s broader EV strategy and its commitment to intelligent, sustainable mobility.
